Home of Living Faith, Inc. is a Non-Profit corporation organized and operated exclusively for charitable purposes and specifically to go out and make disciples of men. We also strive to show love to our Neighbor by feeding the hungry, clothing the oppressed and providing support to those who are fighting substance abuse addition. At Home of Living Faith Inc. we strive to fight hunger and believe that no child should go to bed hungry, adults, should not have to choose between food and utilities, nor a seniors or disabled should sacrifice medical care for the sake of something to eat. Our goal is to fight spiritual and physical hunger.
Who we help
We strive to help the working poor who work one to two jobs but gets no help and lives paycheck to paycheck. Yes they make good money but once they pay the bills there is little or no money for food. Then the Senior and disabled who are on a fixed income and don’t qualify for food stamps but have to choose between food or medical prescriptions. The single parent who struggles to make ends meet, the college student who juggles with bills and food, Veterans, Children, or the homeless who has lost it all but qualifies for nothing. Whatever situation it is we have people in need of food and we will help anyone who needs it. Being hungry leads to desperation. Imagine being that parent who has the empty refrigerator and the children are at home eating the little food they have quickly. How do you tell your children stop eating . Don’t get that! Stop we have to wait tomorrow? How do you make that elderly or sick person just go to sleep on an empty stomach?
Who we are
We are Pastor’s Eloy and Laura Vera from Home of Living Faith Inc. servicing Zavala and Dimmit County. I Laura Vera was raised in this little town of Crystal City, Texas all my life and married my High school sweet heart Eloy Vera Jr. We have lived together in this community of Crystal City for seven years and are raising our family here. We are blessed parents of Jacqueline Vera and Denise Vera. I Laura Vera was a school administrator for Crystal City for 13 years and my husband was a Finance Director for a major car dealership in Killeen, Texas and then a Bondsman in Crystal City for 4 years. God says to use what talents he gave you and to put them to work for him. Therefore, my husband and I have been serving God in the ministry and our goal is to teach others how to love the neighbor and understand the Gospel . We aim to spread the love and help others in need the way our father said for us to do. We have been spreading the word of God and distributing food and clothes for several years now. We believe that we must use what we have to help others and so that is what we are doing. We are working with what we have but we have a vision that this will grow. We want to work with health agencies and help with community outreach while we are running our pantry. To this day Charlotte Wilson Slack a Wesley Nurse from Methodist Healthcare has been a great help and asset to us. Her organization along with others have helped us be able to purchase the food to give during food pantry.
Employment in Crystal City, Texas
The Employment in Crystal City, Texas is very scarce. The biggest employer in our town is Crystal City ISD , HEB , and convenience stores. People struggled financially so much and the employment was scarce so some who lacked higher education or could not get a job depended on fundraising selling food, treats, and other things to people who worked in offices just to buy food or put gas in car.
Covid 19
In the Year of 2020 Covid 19 hit our town and hit it hard. People were already struggling to make ends meet and now the only jobs in town shut down. People were no longer able to sell , fundraise , or have garage sales. Restaurants had to go to strictly drive thru which means waiters and waitresses lost their jobs. This virus is killing the little jobs in our area and the need is becoming bigger and bigger. More and more people are in unemployement and not everyone qualifies for help from the government.
Bible Quote
The Bible says:
Mark 12:31 You shall love your neighbor as yourself. Matthew 25:35 For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me. Matthew 7:12Do to others whatever you would like them to do you. Therefore, we strive to do what our father has commanded us to do and welcome others to join us in the mission.
What we have Done
We at Home of Living Faith Inc. along with the community have donated to fill the pantry so we can feed those families who have no food. Together we as neighbors were helping each other fight hunger in our area. All this being done out of Faith. All this with limited physical help because of Covid 19. We could have just step down and done nothing because of the fear of COVID-19 or because there was limited help. However, our father God put it in our hearts to donate what we had. So we cleared two rooms in the back of our house and used one to sort clothes and another to sort and store food. The problem is that there is little to no parking, space for pantry very small, and we are on a major highway so it is dangerous to hold a pantry due to traffic. We are not getting large food trucks of food therefore we are having to buy the food and share with the community.
So the question becomes what do we need?
1. We need donations to buy food. The average cost to feed 200 families a week is about 1,000.00. If we get this amount we would be able to give them Chicken, rice, beans, can food, fresh vegetables weekly. We would love to include nutritious foods however, the cost is high. So depending on how much we get in donations is what we can give.
Why we do what we do?
We do Food and Clothing Pantry because we have a love for others. We do it because our Father God commands us to love our Neighbor. We do it because it is right. We all have good days and all have bad days. We pray that if one day someone is down we will be able to help them get back up. We do this because GOD IS LOVE and no one should ever have to worry about food or clothes.
